My husband, Bob, and I moved to Cheshire in 2013. I was born and raised in Middlefield, CT. Upon graduation from Coginchaug Regional H.S. in Durham, I went on to Allegheny College (BA, English) and then the University of Missouri School of Journalism (MA). Bob and I are blessed with two amazing kids – our daughter who is now a second grade teacher for the Atlanta Classical Academy and our son, a partner in a gym and a soccer coach for the Indy Eleven Pro Academy.

Parents are the key to their children’s academic success. I also believe the most valuable partnership ever forged in this country is that between parents and their children’s teachers. A district must do everything in its power to foster trust and understanding between parents and teachers in order to give a child the individual agency to succeed both in and outside of the classroom.

The world has never been static. We must foster in students an enthusiasm for a lifetime of learning and openness to any and all opportunities as they arise. I’ve worked as a reporter in health care and politics in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Spartanburg, SC. I started my own company in Singapore, taught middle school English for twelve years in San Jose, CA, and, until recently, managed a nonprofit. I’m also a founding member of Christ Presbyterian Church, Wallingford.

Finally, I believe in the promise of our founding and the proposition that all men and women are created equal and endowed with certain unalienable rights, among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
